Biblical Truths

In Ephesians 6:10-18 we are instructed to put on the full armor of God, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes to stand firm, the shield of faith, the helmet of God’s saving power and the sword of the word of God.

Nowhere in that passage does it suggest that we put on any sort of armor to protect our backside as we turn and flee in fearful retreat.

Follow along as we make our way through scripture to identify those passages that demonstrate and direct us to not be afraid, to not worry or be anxious… to be strong & courageous… to have a worshipful fear and awe of God… to have faith and trust in God.

Psalm 046:10

Our God says, “Calm down, and learn that I am God! All nations on earth will honor me.”

Psalm 46:10 (CEV)

Biblical Truth: Be still and do not worry, for God is God and rules the nations, His name will be exalted.

Psalm 046:01-02

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.

Biblical Truth: When worry and fear abound God is our safe refuge. Even when our world seems upside down He is our strong rock.

Psalm 040:03

And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord.

Psalm 037:08-09

Don’t give in to worry or anger; it only leads to trouble. Those who trust in the Lord will possess the land, but the wicked will be driven out.

Psalm 37:8-9 (GNT)

Biblical Truth: When we give in to anger and worry over the prosperity of those who do evil we open ourselves up to temptation. The actions of the wicked are costly and judgment is certain.

Psalm 037:07

Be patient and wait for the Lord to act; don’t be worried about those who prosper or those who succeed in their evil plans.

Psalm 37:7 (GNT)

Biblical Truth: Put aside worry and wait expectantly for the Lord, because we know that all that He does, and all He allows, He is able to use for His good.

Genesis 22:12

He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

Genesis 22:12 (ESV)

Biblical Truth: When we are willing to surrender that which is most dear to us to serve our Heavenly Father we demonstrate our love and worship to Him.

Psalm 037:01-02

Don’t be worried on account of the wicked; don’t be jealous of those who do wrong. They will soon disappear like grass that dries up; they will die like plants that wither.

Psalm 37:1-2 (GNT)

Biblical Truth: Having a spirit of content and confidence in God is sufficient to keep us from being envious of the success and prosperity of men which is short lived. With God our future is everlasting.

Psalm 036:01-02

Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts. They have no fear of God at all. In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are.

Psalm 36:1-2 (NLT)

Biblical Truth: Because they do not fear and worship the Lord, the wicked are blind to their sin. But a day will come when their sin is revealed to them.

Psalm 035:01-03

Oppose those who oppose me, Lord, and fight those who fight against me! Take your shield and armor and come to my rescue. Lift up your spear and war ax against those who pursue me.  Promise that you will save me.

Biblical Truth: Fear and worry are no match for God, He is able to shield us from the anxieties that oppose us, and rescue us from the challenges of fear. He is our salvation, and that is enough.
